Bipartisan Policy Center Announces 2014 Housing Summit
It's time to set aside agendas, and talk housing's future HousingWire
Why a housing summit?
There have been few times in our nation’s history when the challenges in housing have been so great.
Six years after the collapse of the housing market, our government-dominated mortgage finance system is unsustainable. Tight lending conditions continue to prevent thousands of creditworthy families from achieving their dream of homeownership.
Rental costs consume ever-increasing shares of family budgets while our federal housing assistance programs are woefully underfunded to meet the growing need.
All of these problems are converging at a moment when our country is undergoing profound demographic changes—the aging of the 78 million Baby Boomers, the formation of new households by the millions of millennials, and the increasing diversity of the U.S. population.
While these challenges may seem overwhelming, we also see opportunity.
We are confident that developing practical solutions is possible so long as we remain committed to keeping housing at the forefront of the Washington policy agenda.
